|Eagle Scout Project Idea - Indexing or FamilySearch|
Here is an eagle scout project idea:
Invite youth or church members to participate in indexing, which is typing the handwritten information from census and other historical records so that others can find their ancestors in a free online database search at FamilySearch.org/search. Youth groups can compete by seeing which group has entered the most records (keeping track of their own progress).
Genealogy is an important part of many people's lives, and being able to search online for ancestral records is a great service. By typing in the handwritten records of historical documents into a searchable online database, people throughout the world can enjoy the benefits of finding their family records with an easy search.

The requirements of an eagle project state
"While a Life Scout, plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a service project helpful to any religious institution, any school, or your community." http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/BoyScouts/AdvancementandAwards/eagle.aspx
A project that is helpful to the religious institution of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is to work on the large family tree at FamilySearch.org/tree. Working on the family tree will provide families with a greater appreciation of their family, and the church will benefit by having more organized information in their family tree.
Each member can review his or her own family tree, adding new members or by correcting information in it.
A good way to get started is to review the information at learnfamilysearch.com.
